In the peripheral VIP areas of the Main Room, 10 Funktion One Resolution 2 full-range speakers, 20 Funktion One F101 speakers and 10 Funktion One 18-inch subwoofers supply peripheral audio support. “Marquee’s owners gave Sound Investment Audio a very specific directive: to build the world’s best sound system,” said Todd. “This required not only using the highest quality components possible, but it also required a manufacturer who was enthusiastic about designing a custom system with SIA. “Funktion One was invaluable in achieving the design directive, as the entire system required custom rigging and configuration, as well as drivers with superior response characteristics. The overwhelming opinion of people that have experienced the system is that it is the best sound system they’ve ever heard.” In what is known as the Crow’s Nest, the FOH set-up includes a Yamaha LS9-16 digital mixing console, with Yamaha MY16-AE expansion card. Talking about the choice of sound desk, Todd explained why the LS-9 was favoured: “The requirements for the FOH console were that it had multiple AES inputs and outputs, that it was small in form factor, and that it could be controlled remotely...
for this reason the LS9 with expansion cards was chosen.” The DJ booth on the main stage is full of kit. Five Pioneer CDJ- 2000 CD decks, two Pioneer DJM-800 DJ mixers, a Pioneer EFX- 1000 digital effects unit, four Technics SL-1210M5G turntables, three Rane Serato units, Shure SM58’s and Shure ULXP24D/ BETA58 wireless mics give users everything they need to perform. Monitoring is handled by two Funktion One Resolution 3 speakers and two Turbosound NuQ-12 speakers.
BOOMBOX, LIBRARY AND DAY CLUB Part of the appeal of Marquee is the variation offered by its different rooms. While the Main Room has been designed for a high energy, house music-orientated direction, the other rooms offer a different tilt and technology specifications to match. BoomBox is more focused on hip hop music, and for that an audio set-up consisting of Funktion One F101 speakers, Funktion One Resolution 1.5TT speakers and Funktion One F121 subwoofers has been specified. DJs have a scaled down version of the Main Room, with Pioneer CDJ-2000 CD decks, a Pioneer DJM-800 DJ mixer, Technics SL-1210M5G turntables and a Rane Serato unit.
