power compression. While the B2-SUB has a high output band pass horn design and extremely high SPL, which is ideal for the extended bass requirements needed at GOGO.

d&b speakers can only be driven by d&b amplifiers. Johnny opted to install a rack of D12s at GOGO. All d&b amplifiers have built in digital signal processing, which allows for a flexible sound system. The D12s have both digital and analog signal inputs as well as link outputs, remote control and monitoring capabilities and sophisticated protection circuits.

Alex continued: “For every project in China, whatever kind in the entertainment market, clubs or bars, theatres, rental, when the con- tractor has finished the project d&b will go there to carry out sound tuning.

“Even if a new contractor was used for the installation stage, we go to the site and offer some suggestions that will ensure the system sounds good. After service, or before the deal at the design stage, d&b are involved.”

In any country there is stiff competition for speaker manufacturers, but in China the sheer amount of speaker brands is staggering. Alex explained why he thinks d&b stand out: “Many factories have successful products, and other brands have their own style and advantages, but for us we sell the speaker and sell our service. And that’s why people choose d&b in China.”

The club’s sound system is controlled using a Yamaha 01V96VCM mixing desk. Johnny said he selected this because, “at the club we get bands that want a digital console, and the Yamaha meets all the required needs. The desk is good for both [live performance and DJ]. “On the desk we have some presets which can be used by bands. Then we can change to another preset for DJs. A digital console makes life much easier.”

Though the 01V96VCM is a compact mixing desk, it does not com- promise on performance. The desk can handle up to 40 inputs, has powerful channel functions with flexible control and digital patching capability, and features versatile channel pairing and grouping func- tions which enhances mixing efficiency.

As is usual in Chinese clubs, GOGO features a number of private VIP karaoke rooms (KTV), which can be hired out. To give these rooms a sense of individuality, some the rooms have been kitted out with other audio solutions. The smaller VIP rooms have been installed with K.M.E VL-12’s and VL-8 speakers, accompanied by Circle Sound EN-215 subwoofers. Circle Sound is Johnny’s own Chinese audio brand. While the deluxe VIP room continues with the d&b theme, alongside another EN-215 subwoofer and amplifiers from MC² and Circle Sound.

When it came to selecting lighting equipment, Johnny once again did not want to compromise. He selected Acme lighting, the same brand he had installed on the previous project at Lili Marleen. However, for GOGO Johnny opted for the newest fixtures the company had to offer. In fact GOGO is the first establishment in China to install the fixtures.

The lighting line-up includes six Acme DigiVideo Spot 2500’s and 32 Acme Genesis Move 50 LED moving spots. Acme’s William Chang explained why he believes the Acme products were chosen for this project. He said: “The compact housing, full package of effects and colours, user friendliness and powerful output make our products stand out from other lighting products. “At GOGO Club we installed 32 of Acme’s new Genesis Move 50 LED moving spots. In its small head, it includes one rotating gobo wheel, one fixed gobo wheel, one colour wheel, one indexable, replaceable rotating prism, auto focus, 0-100% linear dimming and fast strobe effects, and automatic pan / tilt position correction. The LED fixture can be controlled also by Acme’s specially designed wire- less controller, so users can have the lighting shows controls at their fingertips.”

Johnny is very pleased to have a pioneering lighting installation and feels it works well with the audio equipment to create the overall ef- fect of a simply stunning nightclub. “Over years of effort, Acme has built a very good, solid image in the club and DJ markets. Acme has done a lot of installation projects all over China. The two brand new nightclubs [Lili Marleen and GOGO] once again prove that customers are satisfied with our products and service. Acme will do its upmost to bring more innovative products that customer need to the market,” concluded William. The final piece of the jigsaw is visual display. Behind the DJ booth there is a large screen, which is used by VJs to create the third dimension of video at GOGO. Johnny selected Dataton’s WA-
