PROLIGHT + SOUND FRANKFURT

Prolight + Sound 2011 took place at its usual home, the Messe Frankfurt, on 6 - 9 April. This year’s show, compared to last year, definitely had a more upbeat and positive vibe. The sun was shining in Frankfurt and it seemed most were pleasantly surprised with what the show had to offer.h After last year’s layout flaw (Hall 11.1), the organisers got it right this time, getting rid of that hall, and re-organising stand positions. Many of the exhibitors, which moved into Hall 11.1 last year, were redistributed into Halls 8, 9, and 11, much to the delight of many companies. The show closed on the fourth day with record-breaking participation. Exhibitor numbers reached 2,384 from 55 countries. While visitors number were also up on last year, to 110,000 spanning 124 countries.

The numbers reaffirm that PL+S remains one of, if not the, most important trade- show for our industry. If the largest one is picking itself up after a tough couple of years, it should hopefully be positive for other shows throughout the year. Though we’re not fully on the road to recovery yet, this positivity is a great step in the right direction. Messe Frankfurt CEO Detlef Braun described the 2011 edition of PL+S as, “a very positive signal for the industry and a highly satisfying result for us organisers.” The organisers had more good news, with the announcement of new tradeshows NAMM Musikmesse and Prolight + Sound NAMM Russia, which will be organised in conjunction with NAMM, and will take place at Russia’s Expo Centre from 16 - 19 May 2012.
