Top Returner G ASHTON WHEATLEY (SR.) Salisbury’s heart and soul is the athletic former midfielder who grew up nearby on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Wheatley ranked second in D-III in save percentage (56.3) and goals against average (5.56).


X-Factor A BETHANY BAER (JR.)


The Sea Gulls graduated a ton on offense. Bear (40g, 19a) gives Salisbury an athletic returning All-American up front.


Top Returner A ERICA GEREMIA (SO.)


The next great Cortland star was lured to Cortland by its last great star, fellow West Genesee (N.Y.) alum Maria DiFato. As a freshman, Geremia led Division III with 136 points (62g, 74a).


X-Factor D JESSICA LAVELLE (SR.) The IWLCA Defender of the Year has seen her season end in the semifinals two years running. Expect her to lead Cortland at least that far again.


Top Returner M CAROLINE HAYES (JR.)


Hayes played alongside two All-American midfielders as a freshman, and then became one herself as a sophomore with 31 goals and 15 assists.


X-Factor G EMILY MOONEY (SO.)


Mooney was inserted as the starter midway through her freshman season and led the Bantams to seven straight wins, including a brilliant performance against Cortland in the NCAA semifinals.


Alyssa Palomba


Top Returner M LIZA HERZOG (SR.) Herzog led the Panthers with 63 draw controls in 2013 and was the only Middlebury player to score twice in the one-goal NCAA semifinal loss to Salisbury.


X-Factor G ALYSSA PALOMBA (SR.)


Palomba (6.80 GAA) replaced a former IWLCA Goalie of the Year in 2013 and helped lead the Panthers back to the final four.


Top Returner A CAROLINE KROHN (SR.)

Krohn was named a first-team All-American after putting up team highs of 28 assists and 64 points and already ranks eighth in program history with 50 career caused turnovers.


X-Factor G KELSEY HOFFMAN (SR.) A starter since day one, Hoffman was a steady presence in the Diplomats’ run back to the NCAA quarterfinals. She has a 7.67 career goals against average.

Top Returner A KELSEY MARKIEWICZ (SR.) Markiewicz (42g, 24a) pumped in eight goals in two days as a freshman to lead the Bullets to the NCAA title in 2011. She could get them back there.


X-Factor CHAMPIONSHIP EXPERIENCE As Salisbury showed last year, you can’t count out a group of seniors looking for one more ring. Markiewicz, Loren Pruitt and Katie Blumenthal are all seniors who scored as freshmen in the 2011 NCAA title game.


Top Returner M LAUREN PIGOTT (SR.)


Pigott, a first-team All-American, led the Lions in ground balls (37) and draw controls (67) while also scoring 45 goals.


X-Factor COACH SHARON PFLUGER You can never count out the Lions, who are led by one of the greats in Pfluger, a Hall of Famer. Pfluger has won 403 lacrosse games and in the fall became just the second Division III field hockey coach to win 500.


Top Returner A LINDSEY MCKENNA (SR.) The NESCAC’s top returning scorer (47 goals) and third-team All- American is the only first-team all-conference returnee in the NESCAC.


X-Factor DEFENSE


Michelle Burt returns in goal to anchor a defense that, despite playing one of the country’s toughest schedules, ranked 10th in D-III in goals against average in 2013 (6.89).

Haggerty has started every game for the Knights and became their first- ever All-American in 2013 with 29 assists and 68 points.


X-Factor A CAROLINE BUONOCORE (SR.) The first-team All-SUNYAC attacker elevated her game when it counted most, scoring a career-high six goals to lead Geneseo to its first-ever NCAA tournament game victory over Susquehanna.

The third-team All-American does it all for the Polar Bears. She racked up 24 goals, 16 assists, 42 draw controls, 30 ground balls and 35 caused turnovers in 2013.


X-Factor D ERICA NANGERONI (SR.)


The Polar Bears’ defense ranked No. 11 in Division III in 2013. Nangeroni caused 35 turnovers and scooped a team-high 33 ground balls.
