COLLEGE PREVIEW 2014 NCAA DIVISION III MEN’S TOP 20 Kyle Holechek

Top Returner D KYLE HOLECHEK (SR.) There is a laundry list of guys who could fill this spot, but Holechek (74 GBs, 32 CT) is the glue that keeps the Mustangs as a cohesive entity.

X-Factors FO BRENT HIKEN (SR.) AND FO SAM WYATT (JR.) They get lost in the star-studded Stevenson mélange, but the faceoff tandem of Hiken (70.9 percent) and Wyatt (66.5) plays a critical role.

Top Returner A JACK KRZYSTON (SR.) The team-leading 81 points (52g, 29a) are impressive, but it’s Krzyston’s efficiency — he scores on half of the shots he takes — that sets him apart.

X-Factor G ANTHONY DELEO (SR.)

Junior Pat Johnston (7.23 GAA, 63.5 sv%) is the incumbent goalie after guiding the Tigers to the title game. But RIT has the luxury of DeLeo, who went 15-3 in 2012, on standby.

Top Returner A ZACH HOPPS (SO.)

Senior midfielder Joe Slavik gets the ink, but Hopps (28g, 40a) was the straw that stirred the Red Dragons drink in 2013. He’ll do the same again this spring.

X-Factor G SCOTT TOTA (R-JR.) Tota went 12-1 as a rookie in 2011, but has played barely 100 minutes since. Is he ready to become Cortland’s primary backstop again?

Top Returner G ALEX TAYLOR (SR.)

His work in the crease (5.50 GAA, 61.5 sv%) is impressive. But Taylor’s efforts outside of it — his 81 ground balls ranked second on the team — set him apart.

X-Factor A JESSE RABISHAW (JR.)

If Rabishaw (12g, 8a), an Ontario product, can successfully fill the crease finisher role in Jim Berkman’s offense, he’ll put up big numbers.

Brian Cannon

Top Returner A BRIAN CANNON (SR.)

1 2 3 4 5

2013 was another big year for Cannon, who posted the third-most points (48g, 20a) in school history. If the Devils make another NCAA tournament run, he should eclipse those marks.

X-Factor FO CARTER MOORE (SR.)

Dickinson lost some key cogs on defense, so Moore (66.7 FO%) will be tasked with giving it breathing room, especially early in the season.

2013 RECORD: 22-2 (8-0 MAC COMMONWEALTH) Top Returner A COLE BAILEY (JR.)

With a game that resembles former Jumbo great D.J. Hessler, Bailey (30g, 42a) could be on the cusp on an epic season in Medford.

X-Factor G PATTON WATKINS (SR.) Watkins (10.23 GAA, 56.5 sv%) led Tufts to the NCAA championship game as a freshman, but he has been up and down since. With some key losses on defense, he’ll need finish strong as a senior.

Top Returner A COREY ELMER (SR.)

Can Elmer repeat the kind of season (57g, 55a) he posted in 2013? If the Cavaliers want to break their NCAA tournament glass ceiling, he’ll have to be just as prolific against the top teams.

X-Factor A ETHAN HEISMAN (JR.) With the graduation of Bobby Thorp, someone will have to make the opposition pay for cordoning off Elmer. That will be the 6-foot-4 Heisman (36g, 11a).

Top Returner G CHARLES PEASE (SR.)

Roanoke coach and goalie guru Bill Pilat thinks Pease (9.04 GAA, 56.5 sv%) is one of the best around, and he’ll have nearly his entire defense returning to protect him.

X-Factors A TYLER MCWILLIAMS (SO.) AND A WILL PILAT (SO.) Security blankets Richard Lachlan and Mike Hayden are gone. McWilliams (31g, 30a) and Pilat (32g, 21a) must assume the offensive mantle.

Top Returner G TED DISALVO (SR.)

6 7 8 9

Top Returner A ADAM KNAPTON (SR.) Knapton (30g, 32a) gives the Bears have a true playmaker, someone who can feed the likes of senior midfielder Sean Lawton (28g, 11a).

10 X-Factor FO JESSE DELUCCA (SR.)

DeLucca managed to win half of his faceoffs (116-for-232) last year, but the rest of the team did not fare nearly as well (34 percent). DeLucca needs give the defense a break against a brutal schedule.

A Publication of US Lacrosse

DiSalvo (8.98 GAA, 57.6 sv%) stepped into the starting role for the first time and excelled for the Shormen. He’ll anchor the defense now.

X-Factor M HUNTER NOWICKI (SR.)

With the graduation of Bennett Cord, who had nearly twice as many points as the next player, the Shoremen need a new lead dog on the offensive end. That role belongs to Nowicki (20g, 13a).
