COLLEGE PREVIEW 2014 NCAA DIVISION I MEN’S TOP 20 1 Jordan Wolf
Key Game Duke closes its tough
ACC regular season slate with a rivalry game that likely will figure in ACC and NCAA tournament seeding. The Blue Devils are 12-1 against Virginia under Danowski.

Enemy Lines WHAT RIVAL COACHES SAY
“Wolf still flies under the radar. He’s one of a handful of guys who has the ability to break somebody down from ‘X’ and create scoring opportunities… Dionne seems to handle everything and always puts the ball in the back of the net… Fowler is the great equalizer… Still have to question the defense, which at times plays out of control and undisciplined... Turri is not exactly lighting up the stat sheet.”

Projected Starters A Jordan Wolf (Sr.)* G: 57
or all of Jordan Wolf’s sizzle, he has just as much as substance. According to Duke coach John
Danowski, Wolf, the 5-foot-9, 179-pound senior attackman, is “pound-for-pound” the strongest player on the Blue Devils. Wolf, the Blue Devils’ top scorer the last
two years, set new personal highs in the bench press (290 pounds), clean (265) and squat set (500) during the offseason. That made him a member of Duke’s 1,000 Pound Club and gave him the team’s best ratio of total weight lifted across those three
exercises
compared to body weight.
“Sometimes it’s
hard to improve as a senior in the fall because you do it for four years, and maybe you’re not as motivated,” Danowski “He’s
said. extremely
motivated.” Wolf is a two-
time All-American with 120 career goals and 81 assists. He leads an attack unit that found its groove midway through last season en route to the NCAA title. After a very Duke-like 2-3 start, Christian Walsh shifted to midfield to allow freshman playmaker Case Matheis to work with Wolf and Josh Dionne on attack.

Top Returner A JORDAN WOLF (SR.)
Wolf, whose 201 career points are fourth all-time at Duke, can cement his legacy in the pantheon of great attackmen.
“Case played the point on offense, on
the break, and allowed Jordan to come up the hash,” Danowski said. “Josh didn’t have to come up the hash right-handed because he’s a natural lefty, and so on. It helped quite a bit.” It’s not only the attack trio that returns.
Prolific faceoff man Brendan Fowler, MVP of the NCAA tournament, is back, as is goalie Kyle Turri, who didn’t put up great numbers — aside from a 14-1 record. Duke has athletes on defense, with long- stick midfielder Luke Duprey doing his best praying mantis impression, Will Haus being among the nation’s best short-stick defensive midfielder and Chris Hipps and Henry Lobb at close defense. If there is one area of uncertainty, it’s
offensive midfield. As was the case this time last year, Duke will start two new players alongside a single returning starter in Walsh. Deemer Class and Myles Jones, who ran on the second line, are likely to bump up. Freshmen Tommy Zenker and Jack Bruckner round out the midfield corps. Their progression will be key. But after seven straight final fours,
what’s stopping them from making it eight? — Corey McLaughlin

Jones has been an X-factor since high school, when the now 6-foot-4, 240-pounder also played on the Walt Whitman (N.Y.) basketball and football teams. If he can continue to polish his game, watch out.
