Enemy Lines WHAT RIVAL COACHES SAY
“Jesse King has first-team All- American talent at the midfield and is beyond crafty… Losing Dominique Alexander may hurt this team more than people think. There were times last year he did it all playing defense and then transitioning to offense… Even though Dutton played well in some big games, he and the defense struggled at times and played a lot of zone to counter their struggles.”

Key Game After a tougher early-
season start than normal for the Buckeyes, they face a familiar Canadian-infused foe. A win would send Ohio State into the final season of ECAC conference play in good spirits.

hat will they do next? That is a question appropriate for any team, but especially
timely for Ohio State. The Buckeyes had a landmark 2013, racking up 13 wins, including ECAC tournament victories over Loyola and Denver to take the league title. Ohio State was the third overall seed for the NCAA tournament, and were blown out in the quarterfinals by Cornell. Of course, those are things that
already are known. So are a few others: Jesse King will be the centerpiece of the Buckeyes’ offense in the wake of Logan
departure.

plus experienced short- and long- stick midfielders to defend in front of Greg Dutton.
For all of that, though, Ohio State graduated an important nine-member senior class that also included faceoff man Trey Wilkes and versatile midfielder Dominique Alexander. The program reached its first NCAA tournament since 2008 and first under coach Nick Myers. “This group is very eager and hungry

to turn the page and focus on this new journey,” Myers said, “and also understand that we were humbled the last time we were on a lacrosse field.” King could play attack or stay in the midfield, depending on how complementary parts develop. He will be a focal point no matter what in an offense that features tons of movement and high-percentage shots that play to the strength of top Canadian talents like King and Turner Evans. As a sophomore, King, a former Canadian under-19 team member, posted 32 goals and 23 assists, second best on the team only behind Schuss, who also organized the offensive sets on the field the last two-plus seasons. Evans is a talented finisher on attack and Carter Brown can play point-behind. It looks like an easier road in the ECAC
with Loyola and Denver gone to the Patriot League and Big East, respectively. Air Force, Bellarmine, Fairfield and Michigan remain in the league, which will dissolve after a champion is crowned and NCAA AQ berth decided May 3 in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes’ first Big Ten lacrosse season comes next year.

Top Returner M JESSE KING (JR.)
King is set to fill the role once held by Logan Schuss, and Joel Delgarno and Kevin Buchanan before him, as OSU’s primary threat. The lefty can play attack or midfield. “He’s a very dynamic player,” Myers said.
