Enemy Lines WHAT RIVAL COACHES SAY

“Kavanagh might be the best offensive player in school history before he leaves… Goalie situation is the X-factor, but they were still a couple plays away from the final four when John Kemp was saving the ball at 53.9 percent. If whoever they start can be around that, they may not miss a beat… Very vanilla offense that at times can look like it belongs in the bottom tier.”

the ACC after the Irish finished their stint in the Big East in 2013. “I’ve got all kinds of ties to the ACC,” Corrigan said. “It’s where I grew up.” Corrigan’s father, Gene, oversaw the ACC as its commissioner in the late 1980s and early 1990s. He always saw Notre Dame as an ACC school. Kevin Corrigan

and his son Will, a junior midfielder for the Irish, will rejoin the family tradition in the conference. But

Kevin Corrigan said the move was about Notre Dame and not about his family. “It’s not about me. It’s not about him,”

he said. “It’s about our team and our program and it’s a great, great fit.” Kevin Corrigan’s name has been tied

before to ACC openings, and Notre Dame routinely played ACC foes during

the regular season even before formally joining the conference. In 2013, the Irish played three current members of the ACC (Duke, North Carolina and Syracuse) in the regular season. Notre Dame has played an ACC team every year since 2000. The Irish are 11-18 against ACC schools during Corrigan’s 24 years at the helm. “Going forward, we can recruit to playing

in that conference every year,” he said. “We can know that we’re going to have the facilities, the support from the school, the schedule and all those things going for us. They’re going to be as good as anybody in the country. Those are important trying to build a championship-caliber program.” With the addition of Syracuse and

Notre Dame and the loss of Maryland a year from now, 2014’s version of the ACC could be the best lacrosse conference of all-time. Corrigan called it the best conference in the country — in any sport. “You’ve got six teams in the conference

and all of them are among the top rankings in the country,” Corrigan said. “I don’t know of any other sport that has anything like that.” And if anyone knows the ACC, it is Corrigan.

Hopkins scored 36 goals his first two seasons but moved to midfield in 2013. His production (6g, 3a) plummeted. Hopkins is back on attack for a team that always seems in need of scorers.
