Enemy Lines WHAT RIVAL COACHES SAY

“David Dickson sets up players with passing better than anyone in his league… Defensive system maintains its potency even with a revolving door of players… The 10-man ride has the ability to totally change games, just like it did in the upset over Cornell… Fedorjaka may be the best coach in Division I, creating teams that are incredibly sound with their schemes. Why would anyone schedule them?”

Key Game The Bison lost to the

Mountain Hawks twice last season, including in the Patriot League final, denying them an AQ. They get them at home this year, with conference seeding potentially at stake.

espite never having a losing season in Frank Fedorjaka’s eight seasons as coach, Bucknell has reached the

NCAA tournament just twice in that span. Every year, it seems, the Bison end up on the wrong side of the bubble. Last year, Bucknell went 12-4 with

wins over highly-touted teams like UMass, Cornell, Albany, Bryant and Colgate, but did not earn an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament. With the field expanding to 18 teams this year, those on the fringes like Bucknell may break through. “The

Patriot

League is so compet i tive,” Fedorjaka said. “To get the automatic bid, it’s hard to go through that gauntlet.” That gauntlet Lehigh

includes

— the team that beat Bucknell in the Patriot League final and has

beaten the Bison three times in the past two seasons — Navy, Colgate, Army and now Loyola, the 2012 NCAA champ. But don’t think Bucknell will bank solely

on the expanded field to get into the NCAA tournament. Of seven double-figure scorers last season, six return in 2014. That includes third-team All-American

Top Returner A TODD HERITAGE (SR.)

While Bucknell will miss Chase Bailey’s 36 goals, Heritage wasn’t too far behind with 34. He’s phenomenal in front of the goal.

David Dickson, who led the Bison with 48 assists. He’ll join Sean Doyle (42 points) and Todd Heritage (39) on attack, giving the team a very potent trio up front. “Traditionally, when we have big wins, it

comes from the defensive end. We usually don’t score a lot in big wins. I do like our offense this year,” Fedorjaka said. “We’re loading up on attack. We haven’t had an attack like this at Bucknell since 1999.” With those three along with sophomore midfielders Thomas Flibotte, Brock Ghelfi and Kyle Shanahan — plus starting midfielder-turned-faceoff-man Peter Burke — Fedorjaka said the Bison are deeper. As Lehigh recovers from graduating

top offensive players like Dante Fantoni and David DiMaria, Colgate has to face life without 2012 Tewaaraton Trophy winner and 2013 No. 1 MLL draft pick Peter Baum and Loyola adjusts to a new conference, Bucknell sees an opportunity to seize the Patriot League. “I love the chemistry,” Fedorjaka said.

“This is my coaching staff’s third year together. We didn’t replace any coaches. When we’ve had a staff together for multiple years we’ve had some real good years.”

Flibotte scored 29 goals playing second line as a freshman. That made Fedorjaka comfortable moving Dickson from midfield to attack and giving Flibotte even more opportunities to shine as a first-liner.
