Are you standing for re-election in May? Yes/No It is my intention to seek re-election.

Do you believe there will be a better or worse voter turnout than normal and why?

The total number of voters might be higher, but the % turnout could be lower because of the concentration there has been on getting more people on the electoral roll.

Would the election be more or less effective if it was fought by political parties?

Probably, but thus far the electorate have turned

I hope people will vote, but sadly you can’t make them. You at least have a vote so please use it.

I do not intend to stand for any political position in the 2018 elections having completed three terms of office spanning nine and a half years by May.

Do you believe there will be a better or worse voter turnout than normal and why?

Constable John Refault

Regarding voter turnout, I believe that there will be a fall in the number of voters given many electors views that there is nobody likely to be worthy of their vote. Historically, it is the older electors that are seen in the largest numbers and they hold on to long held beliefs and views and are largely critical of the current cohort of States Members. I also believe that following the trend in recent English and American elections that there is the potential for a swing to the left in elected members.

I do intend to stand again in May but I don't propose to join in election fever until well into the new year because I want to concentrate on the vital scrutiny work which is occupying a great deal of my time at the moment. Quite frankly I think if we indulge in these things 6+ months before the elections, the public are going to be even more fed up with us.

Do you believe there will be a better or worse voter turnout than normal and why?

Deputy Richard Renouf Page 8 No answer.

Ministers have to vote together. Sorry, that one is not easy for me as I most of the time I do not vote with the Connetables. I vote the way my Parishioners ask me to. If nobody has asked then I vote for what I feel is best.

What issues do you believe will be most prominent in the election, and what are your suggested solutions in brief?

I would like to see much more honesty. The back benchers have much more say and are being listened to. After all we live in the real world! It’s a case of thinking of the Parishioners and the islanders wants and needs.

negative effect on the election. However, in the role of Connetable, the parochial electors do see their Connétable as their voice and representative in the States Chamber and if allied to a political party, would be unlikely to succeed if being controlled by a party whip.

What issues do you believe will be most prominent in the election, and what are your suggested solutions in brief?

Immigration, taxation and charges, affordable housing, Health and waste charges, reform of Government and the States workforce.

The government and its elected members need to engage more openly with the people of Jersey to better inform the populace of the rational and effect of proposed legislation and taxes. The currently emerging changes in the accountability and effectiveness of government, with the reform of the workings of senior staff and the Council of Ministers, will make a positive contribution to restoring confidence in the States as a whole.
