Letter from the Publisher
Here we are just two years away from the iconic date that makes up the title of this magazine. 2020 is also used to refer to good vision, and that is what we try to deliver in this publication - better vision of the future. We do that by putting into context what is happening now, because that will shape what Jersey will be like in the year 2020.
In the meantime the year 2018 might be even more significant for the Island than the year 2020, because this is an election year and whoever wins a seat in the new States in May will help to prepare Jersey for 2020 and the years following. You only have to mention a word that did not exist a couple of years ago, but which is now much overused to appreciate how important this year's election is. Brexit will have an impact on everyone in Jersey and it will be up to the States to make sure that it is as painless as possible, and perhaps even a new platform for future success.
This edition of 20/20 magazine, therefore, looks at the election and the issues facing the new States and poses some of the questions that will have to be answered.
The main theme of this magazine, however, is sports and keeping fit, which will remain important subjects whatever Brexit brings.
Jersey is very lucky to have some superb sporting facilities and a lot of enthusiastic people helping everyone from the very young to the very old to get the most benefit out of what is on offer. Inside this magazine you will find a comprehensive directory which includes details of a bewildering range of sports associations and clubs, and hopefully that will help readers who have not yet taken up a sport to find something that exactly suits their interests and aspirations. There are obvious benefits and some not so obvious benefits of getting more involved in sporting activities, and several experts show how and why this applies to you and me.
Also featured in this edition of 20/20 are the subjects most Islanders are concerned about, including how to look after and improve their property, and where to invest the money that is left over. We also learn what a typical day has in store for a varied group of Island professionals. We hope that in 2018 you enjoy 20/20.
