LIFE OF A DAY IN THE
REBEKAH ANDREWS A SWIM INSTRUCTOR
I wake up early in the morning prepare the breakfast for my son Scott and myself before I get ready for work and Scott gets ready for school. It is entertaining trying to juggle family life and work at the same time but I am a single mum to a 16 year old boy who is the joy of my life.
I have a good balance between work and home life but it helps that I really love my job and look forward to going to work every day. There is the ritual of always checking e-mails before I leave for work so I am not surprised with any issues that might pop up.
When I first arrive I go through the day with all the staff and make sure everyone is prepared and ready for teaching the classes or any other activities we might have. I check the systems for lessons, voicemails, and activities then answer any questions that may arise. I am lucky that my job is varied so it is not the same day after day, and we have lots going on at Les Ormes from Adult and Child Lessons to Pre School Lessons and Child Swimming Lessons all the way up to Adult Lessons, Aqua Boot Camp, and Lifeguarding. Other activities where I am an instructor include Coasteering, Zorbing, Wild Explorer, Pottery Painting, Archery Attack, Kayaking, Paddle Boarding and many more. Most of all I love teaching our mermaid lessons.
In the pool I like to make the lessons fun for the children and push each of them to their individual level, so that each child gets the most out of each and every lesson. Our principal aim at Les Ormes is to create confident swimmers who can go on to enjoy a lifetime of swimming.
After every lesson I update the home-portal system so busy parents can track their child's progress instantly. All told I could be in the pool teaching from 30 mins up to 4 hours at any one time, so I’m very lucky our specially designed teaching pool is 31 degrees.
At lunch I either have a healthy home cooked meal or something off the Les Ormes Brasserie menu. Then it’s my favourite task of the day - office work! That includes catching up on any extra e-mails or phone calls and researching new products to bring to Les Ormes Swim Academy.
After lunch it’s back in the pool for more lessons, and this is our busiest time in the water as schools have finished and all the children are eager to learn. Lots of parents watch their children accomplish new things every lesson, and this is the most rewarding part of my job. Having a child myself I know the importance parents place on making sure their children are safe in the water.
