The Future Game Expo in Belgrade was a small but tight knit affair this year. The number one supplier and operator in the market, Novomatic, declined to exhibit, as did Merkur Gaming, severely impacting the show floor, though Novomatic did have a presence with its Admiral sports-betting booth. iGaming was well represented at the show, with sports-betting companies such as Golden Race, BetConstruct and NSoft, all present and accounted for. While the Serbian gaming market is small, it remains stable and profitable for a handful of resourceful operators, though the lack of economic growth in the country is the limiting factor.

NSoft is one of the fastest growing IT companies in gambling industry and one of the fastest growing out of eight companies under the same umbrella brand, SPARK. Last year SPARK hired 50 people who helped multiply its business and is now hiring an additional 100 people in 2016. SPARK currently employs 200.


While the majority of the employees at NSoft arrive at the company straight from university, with the Mostar-based business looking to mould their team from the start of their career, other experienced individuals have joined the company and relish the new environment and opportunities they are given.


“We are in a position to offer the benefits of ‘no rules’ - a roadmap of benefits for our employees,” explained NSoft CEO, Stjepko Cordas. Te latest product from NSoft, DragRaces, was built by the development team organically, without being given instruction from management. “Te team built the product themselves,” stated Mr. Cordas. “It was created thanks to the freedom that our employees are given to innovate and be creative. We believe that if you don’t inspired your staff in this way, then NSoft will stagnate. If you are to be truly innovative, then you must be allowed to express yourself.”


With youth unemployment at almost 60 per cent in Bosnia, such a radical approach to employment is paying dividends not only for NSoft, but for the wider community too. While struggling to find the right calibre of tech-savvy recruits, NSoft is creating its own training schools for college and university


leavers, attracting international developers with lifestyle packages to draw them to Mostar, and, says Mr. Cordas, there are plans to build dedicated apartment complexes for staff, enabling NSoft to manage rents for their employees at rates significantly below the market norm.


“Innovation doesn’t just happen, you have to create the right environment for it to flourish,” said Mr. Cordas. Te incubator called the Spark School is a free school that takes students looking to learn design and project management, with currently 400 active students enrolled in the programme. Each is asked three simple questions when they enroll - are you here to learn, work or start your own business? “We put opportunities in their path to progress those goals,” states Mr. Cordas. “If you have skills we employ you - if you don’t have skills, we train you.”


Established in 2008, NSoft attempted to export its no- rules environment to an external office infrastructure in the past, two years ago opening up a subsidiary site, but the project ultimately failed. Exporting an entire business culture proved a stiff challenge, but NSoft remains undaunted. “We have learned that we have to find the right team and most importantly, a visionary leader, that’s the essential ingredient in this kind of business culture,” underlined Mr. Cordas.


Today, the culmination of NSoft’s working culture is the Seven platform, which places the complete control of betting operations in a single package for operators. Multiple distribution channels are all controlled from a single web application, enabling operators to choose whatever they want to display across whichever channel they need. “Te Seven platform is like the App Store,” described Mr. Cordas,” it integrates third-party content simply and easily from a self-contained cloud-based solution.
