Comment February 2017

At the start of every year I pour over the reports streaming from the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, devouring news of the latest technology for the everyday consumer. The show is often a pre-cursor for many of the inventions and innovations that I’ll be spotting at ICE this month, with attention focused especially on screen, mobile tech, smart devices and automated services. At CES you get to see the latest designs from giants such as Microsoft, LG, Samsung and Sony, as well as start-ups; flying to Vegas on a shoe-string with a 3D-printed proof-of- concept held together with, well, a shoe-string.

It used to be the case that we’d have to wait years for such inventions to make their way onto the floors of ICE, and then even longer before they’d grace a casino floor. Today, however, we’re seeing new tech unveiled at ICE, shown for the first time anywhere at gaming shows and almost immediately onto casino floors. Such has been the speed of this transition that the London show now mirrors many of the traits of CES. We have the giants showcasing startling new omni-channel connected devices, 4K screens bursting with colour and detail, while we talk to board developers working on 8K and the newest chipsets from Intel and AMD. There’s no technology ‘lag’ or ‘latency’ in the system anymore, which is both exciting and at the same time, volatile.

G3 THIS MONTH LAUNCHES ITS BRAND NEW G3NEWSWIRE APP, DOWNLOADABLE FROM THE APP STORE AND VIA GOOGLE PLAY

This month’s Interactive section features amazing new concepts, bringing new ideas to roulette; In-Running technology that will revolutionise the horse racing sector; and Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality in the social gaming space. We see start-ups closing their doors and new companies emerging to launch never-before-seen concepts... even the stories read like those from CES.

In keeping with the technology theme and the ‘mobile first’ strategy adopted by the vast majority of our clients, G3 this month launches its own piece of dedicated-tech, the new G3Newswire App, downloadable from the App Store and via Google Play. The App has been developed from the ground-up to deliver daily news to our readers wherever they find themselves. It’s new, exciting and hopefully the shoe-string won’t break as we go live at ICE Totally Gaming 2017!
