Betfred’s Bid for Chelmsford Racino EMEA

ISRAEL – Israel’s High Court of Justice has ruled that lottery company Mifal Hapayis can turn its slot machines back on after the Finance Ministry shut them down.

Justice Yoram Danzinger ruled that the company’s 650 machines should stay in operation whilst the sector is reviewed. The estate is made up of 500 slots and 150 keno machines.

Mifal Hapayis petitioned the High Court, claiming the machines were shut down without prior notice and this had seriously harmed their incomes. A lawyer for the operator said: “Bettors continue to gamble, but instead of the money going to Mifal Hapayis, which builds schools, it’s going into the pockets of loan sharks of the underworld. The treasury may want to save gamblers, but it’s causing them to sink deeper into the mud with loans from the gray market.”

Te proposed £50m Chelmsford Casino would be located in the new five-floor grandstand building of the City racecourse.

UK CASINO LICENSING

Te council’s Director of Sustainable Communities, David Green, said: “Given the planning history and also the remoteness of the building from residential properties, there is no sound planning reason to limit the hours of use of the casino. Whilst it is recognised that casinos by their nature tend to operate late into the night, the number of visitors to the site during unsociable hours is not likely to be high.”

Te project will need to secure a casino licence from the British Gambling Commission. Once completed it will see Chelmsford become the first racino in the UK and the first racecourse in Europe to offer floodlit racing on turf.

Joe Scanlon, racecourse Chairman, said: “Tis is fantastic news. Over the course of the last few years the leading casinos across the world have been changing into multi-purpose complexes offering a full range of facilities to complement their gambling options. Here at Chelmsford we will be the first to offer a fully integrated racecourse ‘resort’ or leisure destination with

Following win2day meeting the responsibility standards imposed by RAY and the Finnish authorities, the liquidity sharing agreement was approved by the Finnish Ministry of Interior on December 8.
