www.us-tech.com Heraeus Presents Technology and Process to Create Foldable Touch Panels

Conshohocken, PA — Heraeus has launched a new dry-film resist photolithography fine patterning process for conductive polymer films and is able to use rapid-curing infrared (IR) to create flexible touchscreen displays. The development is a product of a collaboration between Heraeus and Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institue (ITRI). High-resolution patterning of touch sensors is a pre- requisite for advanced touch panels, especially for flexible and foldable touch displays. The company has demonstrated the process by patterning Clevios conductive polymer films by DFR photolithography. With this process, line widths of 50 µm reso-

lution and smaller can be achieved easily. Parameter sets and process windows for the entire process chain of Clevios touch panel manufactur- ing are now available for customers to implement in their productions. Clevios films and sensors easily with- stand more than 300,000 bends at bending radii as low as 1 mm (0.039 in.) without degradation. The company has also created a flexible 7 in. (177.8 mm) Clevios con-

ductive polymer touch panel based on an ultra-thin flexible polyimide substrate. Heraeus uses a cus- tomized, rapid IR curing process for fast, efficient curing of polyimide substrate films. Infrared emit- ters transfer heat without contact and at high effi- ciency. Compared with conventional hot air ovens curing processes can take a few minutes rather than hours. In addition, without air movement any con- tamination is minimized. Infrared emitters that match exactly to the absorption wavelength of the material can heat up much faster. Medium-wave carbon emitters meet the absorption spectrum of

polyimide, which enables rapid IR curing/drying. Contact: Heraeus, Inc., 24 Union Hill Road, Conshohocken, PA 19428 % 610-825-6050 fax: 610-825-7061 Web: www.heraeus.com

range, this sort of test has been gen- erally carried out by much more expensive equipment. New to the product line in 2015, the M3UH con- tinuity tester offers a down-shifted resistance threshold (0.1W to 5 MW ±0.1W) compared with that of the M3U. However, the M3U is similar
