Forest, VA — Simplimatic Automation, a provider of material handling and automation solutions, recently programmed and installed a palletizing FANUC® M-710iC/50H robot, which is able to stack 20 cases per minute for a personal health- care company. The vibrant yellow robot has five axes and a
110 lb (50 kg) payload capacity enabling it to easi- ly and quickly maneuver within its protective caging. The palletizing robot is fed a steady stream of boxes by the customer’s conveyor which is fitted with Simplimatic’s custom box guide, which incor- porates case clamps to ensure proper positioning on the line. This guide is designed to fit the cus- tomer’s current manufacturing line and accelerate the company’s ability to integrate the system smoothly into its facility. improved durability and scratch-free surfaces. UV lacquers are used fre- quently for corrosion protection on electronic components in the automo- tive industry, as well as other indus- tries including household appliances. Depending on material require-
ments, mercury medium-pressure lamps or UV LED spotlights are used to cure a great variety of UV lac- quers. In order to ascertain the effects on the process parameters resulting from the use of two types of UV light sources, Rehm measured their temperature, radiation intensi- ty and dosage relative to conveyor speed for the entire UV range and for the UV-vis (ultraviolet to visible) range. Only a minimal difference could be detected between the two UV sources concerning maximum temperature and overall radiation dosage.
The tests also showed a depend-
ence on conveyor speed for both UV light sources. While the measured radiation dosage decreased by a fac- tor of six when the speed was increased from two to six meters per minute, further increases in convey- or speed resulted in only a minimal reduction in radiation input. The differences between the two
UV sources do not become apparent until the tests reach the subdivision of UV and UV-vis. The UV LED spot- light, in particular in the UV-vis range, tend toward a higher radia- tion dosage. The UV LED emits only one wavelength in the range of 200 to 400 nm. This makes it necessary to match the wavelength of a UV LED to the absorption peak of the utilized lacquer system in order to achieve fast and adequate curing. Rehm has developed its

different error scenarios such as e-stop, dropped case, light curtain fault, wrong case count, lost vac- uum, etc. Using the Pallet Tool Turbo, the compa- ny programmed the system to adapt to any addi- tional stacking patterns or changes the customer may require after installation. The palletizing robot is an addition to the
company’s line of custom automation equipment that allows businesses in a large range of factory environments to smoothly automate repetitive tasks. Simplimatic often provides conveyors and automation for mid-stream operations, but this system marked a successful expansion of its cus- tom automation equipment into downstream man- ufacturing processes.
