Dear Readers
With the change of season now upon us, Spring is a wonderful time to revamp your treatment menu and the salon owners I speak to regularly are incredibly optimistic about the coming months. Treatments which may have taken a back seat during the Winter period will become necessities again as the warmer weather arrives; hair removal, body exfoliation, slimming and tanning will increase in demand. A salon owner friend of mine plans on investing in a new piece of equipment at May’s Beauty UK exhibition that she hopes will allow her to revolutionise her facials and body treatments, as she wants to ensure it’s her salon that stands out in this crowded market place. She wants to offer her clients something unique and exclusive and sees investment, whilst making significant savings by purchasing at a trade show, the way to do this. And she’s not wrong. Shows like Beauty UK, and this month’s Scottish Hair & Beauty show which takes place in Edinburgh, offer the ideal opportunity to see what you could offer to transform your business, especially if you’re ‘Spring cleaning’ your business plan this season. Like my salon owner friend, think about what competitor salons in your local area offer – or rather, what they don’t. Adding a complementary therapy such as Reiki or crystal therapy to a facial, or Reflexology to a pedicure, will make your treatments stand out from the crowd. Spring / Summer colours, new skin care formulations and new and innovative treatment techniques will make a real difference to your business. The best beauty businesses never stand still and are always looking to create their own USP, so take full advantage of this season’s opportunities to make your business blossom this Spring. Best wishes

Coach services to get you to and from Edinburgh show
Following last year’s success, transport options for those travelling to this year’s Scottish Hair & Beauty show have been increased with free shuttle buses available from Edinburgh and Glasgow city centres, and additional routes put in place for subsidised coach services from across Scotland.
The free shuttle service from Edinburgh city centre departs from St. Andrew Square North whilst the service from Glasgow leaves from North Hanover Street, near Queen's Street Station. The free services run between the show hall and the city centres throughout the two-day event. You do not need to pre- book a place, although seats are allocated on a ‘first come, first served’ basis at each stop. See the full timetable online at
