signature treatments: HD Brows and Dermalogica Bio Peel
When owner Emily Ash first launched her salon, Browns Loughborough in May 2011, her initial emphasis was to provide clients with the very latest in eyebrow services. In just five years, the beauty business has rapidly expanded, both in terms of the diverse treatments now offered and its locations.
Alongside the main and original salon, Browns One, Emily followed on from its success by opening her second premises – Browns Two. With only a few minutes’ walk between the properties, Browns Two is a Dermalogica Skin Clinic which offers facials, massages and waxing all within serene and peaceful surroundings.
With 10 staff members seeing an average of 300 clients per week, Salon Spy met with Emily to discover more about the origins of the business and to experience one of the salon’s signature treatments – a Dermalogica BioSurface Peel…
How did you come to open your salon? “I used to work with HD Brows’ founder Nilam Holmes-Patel. I could see what a huge thing eyebrows were going to be and decided to open a brow bar in my home town. We were the first in our area to offer HD Brows and we soon grew to offer waxing, lashes, nails and face and body treatments.”
Choosing the right location for any business is important, how did you make your final decision? “I knew the town very well and there were only a couple of other established salons in the centre. I knew I wanted to be prominent, so looked for premises which were on a main route in the town centre.”
What is the philosophy at the heart of Browns Loughborough? “We like to offer a diverse range of treatments that other salons do not. We were the only salon in a ten mile radius to offer HD Brows, but as that grew more popular, more salons started to take it on. We try not to use the same brands as other salons but I think that can get quite difficult as the market becomes saturated.”
