the beauty of Barcelona

Brimming with technical ability, inspirational ideas and a passion for nails, Steven Rhys Wells shares the story behind his recent travels to the Spanish city…

Happy April, readers! Easter is over and I must admit that I am a little saddened by the forthcoming cruel disappearance of a certain confectionary masterpiece; the one and only Creme Egg!

No more for a whole year is almost too awful to bear; although it is probably a blessing in disguise due to the fact that they are extremely moreish and how does that old saying go, ‘A moment on the lips’…

Anyway enough of the treat talks as I am sure that it’s making most of you salivate at the thought. This month, I wanted to shine a light on one of my favourite yearly work breaks – fantastical in architecture, food and of most relative importance, nails; to which Barcelona is a city most definitely at the forefront.

city of culture

Nail techs from all over the world set up camp in this Catalonian capital of culture because it is a city all about beautiful art and beautiful people. We all know that customers feel a glow inside when they look down at their 10 individual little masterpieces, but the need for diversity and creative design is extremely great here in comparison to many other cities.

The distributors and dear friends, Josep and Monica, are still in their early years of the distribution but have already done amazing things for their business country. They have attracted a solid circle of extremely talented educators from all areas of Spain and it was my job to put their talents and technical abilities to the test for some fine tuning and refining.

time to teach

On Day One, I took note from a certain musical classic and thought that starting at the very beginning was indeed a very good place to start; so company history was my opening number followed by active ingredient and benefits of our huge manicure and pedicure range to which I urged all educators to write down absolutely everything (as you never know when you may need to divulge it).

The second part of the day was focussed on acrylic application using forms and tips, mainly French. This is where I get to see the techs’ abilities as they get creative with new products and do what they do best – nails! By the end of the day, I had issued each of the educators with a
