The Benjamin Franklin NationalMemorial is located in the Franklin Institute's rotun- da. This 20-foot high statue of Franklin weights 30 tons and sits on a 92-ton pedestal of white marble. Open to the public at all times when the Franklin Institute is open, the memorial doesn’t require an admission fee. The rotunda was originally opened in 1938 and was modeled after the Pantheon in Rome. Its walls, floors, columns and cornices are made of rare marbles from Portugal, Italy and France.
