up to 900 people. We love to share our marvelous backyard with its exceptional art. We have works that are the same caliber as famous national and interna- tional museums and galleries.”
Making Beautiful Music
Planners are looking forward to the open- ing of The Fillmore Philadelphia in September of 2015. The historic, 125-year old Ajax Metal Company Building has been transformed into a live music and entertainment venue.
This new music venue is part of the ongo- ing revitalization of the city's iconic Fishtown neighborhood, and has gone from a formerWorldWar II munitions fac- tory to what is now a major music per- formance hall.
Honoring the legendary traditions of Fill- more music halls around the country, this 2,500 person capacity venue will show- case state-of-the-art production, vintage poster art,VIP amenities, and friendly hos- pitality surrounding live concert experi- ences.
Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter has said ofThe Fillmore,“Philadelphia is a city with a proud musical heritage, and we could not be more excited that The Fillmore will join the host of great live music venues that this city has to offer. What’smore, this new attraction will bring thousands of people to the Delaware River Waterfront, which is in the midst of a transformation and poised to become one of America’s most dynamic, exciting urban waterfronts.”
The original Fillmore is one of the land- mark performing stages in the U.S.,having first opened in San Francisco in 1965. A focal point of the "psychedelic music scene" of the 1960s and ‘70s, it helped launch the careers of notable performers such as the Grateful Dead, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Santana, The Doors, The Allman Brothers Band, and many others.
