For 25 years, there has been a ban on Pit bulls in Miami-Dade. The Miami Coalition Against Breed Specific Legislation (MCABSL) held its Sixth Annual Pit Bull BBQ, November 2 in TY Park, Hollywood, with more than 500 people and at least as many dogs. “We all enjoyed a good time, with education and awareness at the forefront. Hundreds of folks attended with their dogs without one single incident. Our thanks and grati- tude to all those who attended and who continue to support our cause,” said Dahlia Canes, president of MCABSL. MCABSL has ground rules for their events: All dogs are
welcome (no puppies under four months old; no “in-season” female dogs). No retractable leashes; one dog per adult handler; no face to face greeting. Dogs must be healthy and up to date with all vaccines, proof must be shown if requested. Follow their progress in 2015:

“Golden Retriever Rescue of SW Florida held their Sixth Annual Goldenfest on October 4th at the Shell Factory in Fort Myers. Animal lovers enjoyed the vendor booths, live auctions, raffles, Santa photos, and dock diving. The yellow GRRSWF Alumni bandanas were a crowd favorite. It sent a strong visual message to look out onto the crowd and see all of the dogs that have been saved by the rescue. The group has rescued 532 dogs since its 2009 inception.
