Soggy Doggie Splashing. largo

On October 4, the City of Largo held its 10th Annual Soggy Doggie Splash Day. Just before the pool at Highland Family Aquatic Center is closed for the season, the dogs are allowed to take a swim. Sam is a four-year-old Bichon Frise and a special needs adoption from the Largo SPCA for Michael who has been diag- nosed with autism. Mom, Kathleen is with them. Zoe, an 11-month-old Boston Terrier is deaf. Her humans brought her out for some socialization with the other dogs. Here she meets Sam for the first time. St. Francis Blessings. st. petersburg

Individual animal blessings by Franciscan Friars took place on October 4 at the historic Saint Mary Our Lady of Grace Church in St. Petersburg. A prayer card was presented to each animal blessed. Pet food donations were being accepted for the food pantry at Pet Pal Animal Shelter. Proceeds from the blessings were donat- ed to the shelter as well. Michael Peltier, a veterinarian, has organ- ized the event since its inception six years ago. (Near right): Cody, a Pomeranian with Kimberly. Murray, a Terrier mix with his human, Tom who adopted his pal eight years ago from Pet Pal Animal Shelter. Photography and rover reporting by Dawn Reilly.

wag n’ walk. dade city

Wag N’ Walk In Dade City - Every dog lover in Dade City was a winner at the first annual Wag N’Walk. Around 50 people and their dogs showed up to walk and/or run The Hardy Trail on October 4. Many events are advertised “Rain or Shine” and it’s always pretty inspiring to see how many folks come out with their dogs to support their local community for a worthy cause, in spite of the weather. A special thanks to the law offices of Matthew J. Jowanna who underwrote most of the costs for the event so that the proceeds would benefit the Pet Pantry of Dogs’ Day in Dade City, providing free pet food to Dade City pet owners facing eco- nomic hardship. Drop food donations off at Dog-Mania & Cats - the perfect reason to visit their new store location in Dade City. (Clockwise, top left): Taylor is a 12-year-old Yorkie and former puppy mill dog. He was adopted by Ann and Tom of Dade City from Lost Angels Rescue seven years ago. They recently brought home Daisy (pictured next) who was found run- ning in traffic on State Road 54 in Pasco County. The Maltese mix was in pret- ty bad shape at the time, but “is the sweetest dog,” said Ann. Tonto is a one-year-old Corgi Blue Healer mix. Rambo, a Boxer mix, just finished the walk.
