A Message From Winston.

When we adopt a dog, we’re generally given the basics, which pretty much includes an assessment of health and temperament. Most of the time, no one is completely sure how or why the dog ended up homeless or owner-surrendered. Consequently, we cannot be certain what our new dog’s previous life was like. We wonder what causes their quirks and why they respond a certain way to us and their new surroundings In many of these circumstances, we have con-

sulted with Jo Maldonado, an Animal Reader. We are fortunate to have been able to work with her over the years. She has provided invaluable insights on some of the dogs featured in The New Barker. The results are about achieving a better understanding for the human on the ins and outs of their dogs. An Animal Reader uses energetic, behavioral and intuitive communication between animals and humans to read the body, mind and spirit of animals. “Each animal that enters our life, be it for a sec-

ond or decades, has a meaning and purpose,” said Jo. The following is an excerpt from Winston’s

reading that Jo conducted for us. We emailed her a recent photo of Winston and provided her with just three questions. (Jo did not want to know anything else about Winston so as not to cloud her connec- tion with him for the reading). Winston, why are you so intent on running away? Jo: Although he appreciates his meals and shel-

ter, even his blankets, Winston is “wandering” in his mind. By this I mean he is not clear what his pur- pose is. He needs a job. The mornings in the house- hold present particular confusion for him – humans walking very fast. He thinks he must run too. Winston, what do you think of your life now? Jo: I’m seeing Winston watch feet moving very

quickly and the energy level is high with humans. This not only causes confusion but a little bit of anxiety for him. The message for the human is to slow down, meditate at least 20 minutes a day to help get focused and balanced. Then begin the day. Proper structure and training for Winston to re- adjust certain behavioral traits will be of great help. Winston, why do you like to sleep in the bathroom? Jo: Aside from the temperature of the floor, it

brings Winston comfort. It is reminiscent of his past. Winston is hardy, and the floor rejuvenates him.
