SATURDAY, JANUARY 24 - 7TH ANNUAL POOKIE’S RESCUEFEST: This event has grown larger and more successful each year. The

organizers - Pookie’s Pet Nutrition of Winter Park, have had to move the event several times to accommodate the growth in vendor partic- ipation and attendees. The 2014 event had 70 vendors and 40 rescue groups. Almost 90 dogs and cats were adopted, and they were able to distribute $16,000 to participating rescue groups. The attendance for the free event was around 6700. This year the event will have live music, food trucks, demonstrations and Swift Paws Lure Course. For vendor participation information, call 321.287.0390. PookiesRescueFest.com

SATURDAY, JANUARY 10 - 4TH ANNUAL RED HOT CHILI COOK- OFF: The organizers of this event astutely changed the date from October to January. The idea being that generally, January is a little cool- er than October. And what tastes bet- ter on a cool day than a delicious bowl of chili, all in the name of rais- ing money for Florida rescue groups? Vendor spots are available for only $30 (10x10 booths). There will be live entertainment and dog demon- strations throughout the day and lots of vendors. Chili Teams will be com- peting in three categories: Rescue, Rescue Supporter and People’s Choice. The cooks are serious chili aficiona- dos. It’s fun to hear how they have prepared and cooked their chili. The proceeds are divided up between participating rescue groups. Right now, funds are greatly needed to help offset medical bills and food costs of the dogs in foster care. The event will be at Quaker Steak & Lube at 10400 49th Street North in Clearwater from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. For sponsor participation, contact Lori Fricker at 727.415.1694 or email her at lfricker5550@aol.com (Left): Our favorite event during the 2nd Annual Red Hot Chili Cook- Off was watching a demonstration by the 4-H Club’s Crazy 4 Canines.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 24 - BARK AND BOWL: Anyone who lives with a dog has

heard the stats: one out of every three dogs will be diagnosed with cancer. Of those, more than half of them will die of cancer. The National Canine Cancer Foundation is raising money to help

fund important research grants that are working towards improving those statistics. And Florida dog lovers have come out in full force to

help the foundation over the last few years. The Bark And Bowl fundraising events encourage family and friends to form a team for a fun night of bowling to help strike out canine cancer. The January 24 Bark And Bowl in Jacksonville will benefit the North Florida Chapter of the National Canine Cancer Foundation, which hopes to surpass the $36,500 they raised during the 2014 Bark And Bowl. The January, 2015 event will be held at Bowl America, 10333 San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville. To sign up your team, register at BarkAndBowl.com/Jacksonville.
