(Left to right): Swedish Vallhund KK won her championship title during the show. She traveled with her family from Trenton, Florida to compete. Kane is a three-year-old Belgian Tervuren. His owner/handler, Rebecca was competing with him as a Junior Handler. Khaleesi, a 12-month-old Irish Wolfhound. She has a love for pickles, so her nickname is Pickle Poof. At 120 pounds, who's going to argue with that?

(Left to right): Ivana Trump once said, “Gorgeous hair is the best revenge.” Interesting comment from the ex-wife of Donald. But we tend to agree with her when it comes to Dream, a Toy Poodle. Nadia is a five-year-old Basenji, proudly sporting her Florida State University school colors, in the heart of Gator Country. Willy is a three-year-old Boxer, whose humans adopted him from Boxer Rescue out of Pennsylvania. The family now lives in Silver Springs, Florida.

(Left to right): High Cute Alert: LC is a 19 month-old Wirehaired Miniature Dachshund. Happy Panda is an eight-month-old Scottish Terrier who hails from Reddick, Florida. Lucky for Panda, her human, Anna is the groomer/owner of Diamonds & Pearls Grooming. Pretty in Pink: Gracie is a four- month-old Whippet. ocala Horse Country Is Also Dog’s Country.

On any given weekend in Florida, it’s a sure bet that an AKC-sanctioned dog show is taking place. From an All-Breed and/or Specialty Show in Conformation and Obedience to AKC Rally, Agility, Tracking, and Field Events, the shows are wonderful opportunities for the entire family to watch and admire the beauty and athleticism of dogs. Most of these shows are free to the

public, with the possible exception of a small parking fee. Spectators are encour-

aged to bring chairs and blankets for a front row seat just outside the show rings. Several competitions are always going on at the same time, so it can be overwhelm- ing for the first timer, jumping from one ring to another to catch a different breed of dog competing. There is a program available with show times and ring num- bers for every breed competing. For most of the humans and their

dogs competing, this is a fun, albeit expensive hobby. For others, this is serious

business as dogs rack up points in an effort to be invited to upcoming shows, such as the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show. Over the weekend of September 27

and 28, the Jacksonville Dog Fanciers Association, while celebrating 75 years, hosted an All-Breed Dog Show on the beautiful grounds of the new and greatly improved Greater Ocala Dog Club. Enthusiasts came from all over the state to compete or to provide support to family and friends who had dogs in the rings.
