If you really want to get Down Under and experience Australia’s highlights without feeling rushed, you’ll have to get off the big coaches. Explore Melbourne before hitting the Great Ocean Road and cutting through the outback to the Red Centre. Here you’ll experience the mysteries of Uluru and gain insight into Aboriginal culture. When it comes time to bed down, shake things up with a variety of unique accommodation—from safari tents to underground hostels and even a traditional sheep station.


Itinerary & Sightseeing


Day 1 Melbourne Arrive at any time. › Day 2 Great Ocean Road/Port Campbell Travel along the Great Ocean Road with views of the 12 Apostles and a guided rainforest walk in Great Otway NP › Day 3 Grampians National Park Travel to Grampians NP and trek through the forest. › Day 4 Robe Explore Grampians NP before moving onto Robe. › Day 5 Adelaide Hike in Coorong NP before continuing onto Adelaide. › Day 6 Flinders Ranges Wine tasting in the Barossa Valley before continuing to Alligator Gorge and Quorn where you stay at a working sheep station. › Day 7 Outback Head to Wilpena Pound for a guided walk and learn about Aboriginal art. › Day 8 William Creek Travel along the Old Ghan Railway, visit the Arabunna Aboriginal Centre and trek to the edge of the great salt lake of Lake Eyre. › Day 9 Coober Pedy Cross the outback to Coober Pedy with a guided tour of a mine. › Day 10 Uluru Experience the sunset at Uluru and then bed down in a ‘swag’ (canvas bedroll). › Day 11 Kata Tjuta/Kings Canyon Enjoy a walk around the base of the rock with a local guide before hiking the Valley of the Winds in Kata Tjuta. › Day 12 Western MacDonnell Ranges Explore Kings Canyon. › Day 13 Alice Springs Travel to Glen Helen Gorge en route to Alice Springs.
