School for sweethearts!
Former Sibford head girl Lucie Harmer has some happy memories of her school days … not least because it was where she met her husband- to-be.
Local girl Lucie joined the school in September 1985 … the same year as Michael Williams, whose parents lived in Beaconsfield.
Michael left in 1989 … just before Lucie was appointed head girl (1991/92) and the two lost touch. But four years later they bumped into each other again in Chipping Norton. “Having met up again we kept in touch, despite going to uni at opposite ends of the country,” says Lucie. “Mike went to Sussex while I headed north to study Graphic Arts in Leeds. We were married in August 2005 at another Quaker venue … The Mayflower Barn in Jordans near Beaconsfield.” Lucie, who is Art Editor at Which?
Gardening magazine, and Mike, who is a freelance sound engineer working in television, now live in Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire with their two children Harry (4) and Lottie (10 months).
Chris Howarth is pictured with his daughter’s Romily (left) and Francesca in Room 4. Now one of the English classrooms, Chris remembers it being a Geography classroom where he was taught by Brian Holliday.
• Lucie wasn’t the only member of the family to find romance at Sibford. Her younger sister Georgina, who joined the school in 1988, went on to marry Nick Upton, a pupil in the same year as Mike. Georgina and Nick now live in Cornwall with their two children. And, in a further co- incidence, another classmate of Mike’s, Chris Haworth, met his future wife, Lucy Winslade, at Sibford. The couple now live in Bruern, Oxfordshire with their children Francesca (6) and Romily (4) and returned to Sibford for this year’s annual Open Day and Reunion where they spent time catching up with the Williams family.
