Over the past two years of my Design & Technology GCSE, I have gained many new skills working with a range of different machinery and materials including metals, woods and plastics. As well as practical activities, I have also learnt about the designing and marketing of different products to make them more saleable. We incorporated all of this newly gained knowledge into our coursework that we worked on in Year 11 (accounting for 60% of the GCSE.) We also learnt about mass production in factories and visited the Mini factory in Oxford to see how they use robots to make the cars. I really enjoyed this trip and we all thought the vast amount of high tech engineering that went into the building of all the rows and rows of robots was amazing.

Lazy Susan turns up trumps for Amy

Year 11 student Amy Loveridge gained an A* this year in her GCSE Design & Technology

exam. Here she shares some of the highlights of the course.

Making my final coursework piece was my favourite &

part of the two years. I enjoyed the freedom we had with our coursework as we were allowed to choose what we made as long as it fitted the coursework specification ... because of this, a vast range of different products were produced by both GCSE classes. I made a two-tier Lazy Susan for

my coursework and particularly enjoyed learning how to use the metal-turning lathe to shape the connecters between the two tiers.
