Little Shop is a

GIGANTIC W

success

hen your props include an 8ft high man-eating plant it could be all too easy for the performers to feel down sized. But not so Sibford pupils who back in May gave two gigantic sell-out performances of a Little

Shop of Horrors. The cast spent months

rehearsing for the macabre musical, which revolves

around hapless florist Seymour Krelborn who juggles raising a blood-thirsty plant with trying to win the affections of shop assistant Audrey. And it was well worth the effort. Matthew Rainsberry excelled as the lovelorn Seymour while Bernadette Wagerfield was ‘good enough to eat’ in the role of the gentle Audrey. Cara Mattinson’s portrayal of flower- shop owner Mrs Mushnik was a delight, and Jake Wilson-Wainwright was hilarious and horrifying as the sadistic dentist, who doesn’t believe in painkillers because ‘it dulls the senses’.

Meanwhile Sydonie Brewis proved her singing voice was easily big enough to match the incredible hulk that was the herbaceous horror as she demanded: ‘Feed me!’

Head of Drama and co-director of the

production, Maria Jackson, said: “The dedication of the cast has been fantastic throughout the rehearsal period and I was delighted that we were able to ensure that the set and the props, especially the various incarnations of Audrey II, were a match for their performances.”
