Celebrating success

An Evening of Celebration was held on 20 September 2012 to mark the achievements of our GCSE and A Level students. The event, staged at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury, combined prize giving with music and drama performances. A champagne reception launched the proceedings and we were joined by two special guests. Andrew Wilson was a Gap Student at Sibford in 2004, the year that Michael Goodwin joined the school as Head. After leaving Sibford, Andrew took an anatomy degree before changing his focus to drama, a subject he had been introduced to during his time at Sibford. He is due to make his professional debut in December 2012 when he will appear in War Horse at the Arts Centre Melbourne State Theatre, Australia. Olympic torchbearer Dave Earle also joined us … together with his torch. The boxing and fitness coach, who carried the flame through Wallingford, spoke about perseverance in the face of adversity, telling how he used his own personal experiences … his struggle as a mixed race child growing up with an alcoholic mother … to help youngsters with behavioural difficulties to turn their lives around. Pictured (clockwise from top) are: the GCSE class of 2012 with

Olympic torchbearer Dave Earle; Helen Everett, who (jointly with Daisy Everett) was presented with the award for Outstanding Contribution to Academic Drama with Andrew Wilson; Katie Taylor, recipient of the Gilchrist Award for demonstrating the qualities of perseverance and determination in the face of adversity with Dave Earle; the A Level class of 2012; Michael Goodwin.
