Church of San Maggiore, Venice Pencil and wash Wesley Richards


A retired architectural illustrator who worked in practice illustrating national and international projects, Wesley Richards’ entry is a pencil and wash drawing of Palladio’s Church of San Maggiore, Venice. T is shows a scaled front elevation of the 16th-century building.

T e Royal Academy’s former professor of Architecture exhibits a measured pencil drawing of Senate House at the University of Cambridge, drawn in 1939 when he was 19. Dannatt has had a long career: after working with the LCC architects’ department, he went into private practice in 1952, initially as Trevor Dannatt and Partners and since 1975 as Dannatt Johnson.

A Couple of Trees is one of a number of entries to this year’s show by Leonard Manasseh. It is a watercolour and coloured ink on watercolour paper, depicting an abstract landscape with rolling hills in bright colours, featuring two trees and a round, yellow sun.

Gorsuch Works Design Study, Exploration for Street-Facing Facade

T is is from an ongoing project Pete Burke started four years ago by taking photographs at building-site peep holes. After taking hundreds of images he deletes all but the very best and prints them at his local high-street photo printers. As well as being a record of renewal and change from the person in the street’s perspective, they are about the new democratisation of photography and expansion within limitation.

Design exploration for a street-facing facade of a workshop within Gorsuch Works. Conceived as a place where artists working nearby can extend their practice, the works will consolidate a creative community. Establishing and maintaining a link with the surrounding streets is key.
