Dún Laoghaire Harbour Masterplan: Instrument of Change
Brass, nickel, silver and cherry wood
Metropolitan Workshop
Te masterplan for Dún Laoghaire Harbour Company realises the potential of the harbour as a major marine, leisure and tourism destination. Te model is inspired by old marine chronometers and records the key attributes and functions of the masterplan.

An Intimate Construction
Rotring pen, red lead, copy paper
Neal Tanna
Tis drawing is from a scheme to create a site-specific cartographic method to plot sites over Greenwich. By reassigning a new cardinal north under the cupola at King William Court, the relationship between the prime meridian, local alignments and the celestial sphere are discussed.
973 Te Watcher’s House: Dining Room Plan Pencil
Mike Dean
Te project proposes a speculative seasonal residence for the National Trust warden at Blakeney Point, North Norfolk. Te design explores a series of experimental pencil drawings that investigate the relationships between responsive architectural systems and the dynamic behaviours of active natural environments.
Design Study Pen and ink wash Eric Parry RA
Te early perspective sketch of the scheme that is currently under construction in London’s Piccadilly indicates a cornice artwork that has evolved into Richard Deacon’s compelling maquette – which is also being shown in this year’s exhibition. Te finished building and sculpture are both scheduled to complete in early 2013.
976 Crowd: II Pencil on paper Stephen Ryan
975 Shelley’s Corridor Pen and ink Joanne Edmunds
Exploring the preservation of heritage, this concept drawing describes the truths of the flooded Elan Valley, where Shelley lived.
Te pencil-on-paper, plan, section and elevation drawing shows an initial sketch study of a ‘wind park’ shelter. Hidden among tall trees, the shelter consists of two tall spaces naturally lit from above, with two lower-level rooms, which offer spaces of seclusion and privacy from the natural elements and surroundings.
977 Maggie’s Porch Giclée print Nicholas Szczepaniak
Tis speculative design for a cancer centre, conceived as a small pavilion, put the kitchen and courtyard garden at its heart. A roof canopy hovers protectively over the intimate spaces, supported by colonnades and screens that appear to be extruded from the floor. Apertures in the partitions give glimpses beyond, so each area has a relationship with the rest of the centre.
978 Plaza Pool Giclée print Nicholas Szczepaniak
Te plaza pool is an entrance to speculatively designed militarised coastal defence towers that stand in a line across the mouth of the Blackwater Estuary. It is allowed to flood; the datum level of the plaza rises and falls with the tide. Lighting rods illuminate the space at night.
