1st Houston and Crosslee Scout Group The months of November & December have been very busy for the group.
A number of the scouts attended the Armistice Day service at Houston and Killellan Church and a wreath was laid outside after the service.
The Christmas Fayre was a tremendous success this year and raised almost £2000 through ticket sales and a variety of stalls on the day. Special thanks go to all the cubs, scouts, leaders and committee who helped with the organisation and running of the event, including the making of bird boxes and feeders, providing a food hamper for auction and supplying items for the bottle and cake stalls.
Cameron Kerr Heads For Paris
Strathgryffe’s Cameron Kerr (11) has been selected by the Lawn Tennis Association to be part of a small touring team to play in Paris. The tournament is a Tennis Europe event, which brings together the best junior players from all over Europe. The GB touring group consists of two boys and two girls.
Cameron’s coach, Derek Brown,
commented, “Cameron has made some significant progress recently with changes to his serve and mental strategies. He’s now made the top 15 in the U12 GB rankings with a year to go in the age group. This is a really good opportunity where he can get great experience.”

Kilmacolm Walkers 2011
The Kilmacolm Walkers met on every Thursday during 2011 for a healthy and brisk walk. The good weather was on the side of the Kilmacolm Walkers as, amazingly, all but two of the walks were rain free even though there were occasions when it poured before and after the walks! The accumulated distance of the years’ walks was the equivalent to a brisk walk from Kilmacolm to Inverness!
There are thirty or so Kilmacolm Walkers and the number taking part in each walk ranged from two – the day of the cyclone – to twenty and averaged about fifteen on each occasion throughout the year. Most of the walks which were in and around Kilmacolm were as varied as possible, given the constraint of starting and finishing at the Birkmyre Park Pavilion, and an imposed time limit of an hour or so for each walk.
Some of the Awa’ Walks during the year included Lunderston Bay, Ardgowan Estate and Inverkip Marina; Castle Semple; Locherwood; Duchal Moor and Overtoun Estate. The Kilmacolm Walkers are a happy, social and chatty group who enjoy the healthy exercise of walking in the company of others in the great outdoors.
2012
It is planned that Kilmacolm Walkers will set out from the Birkmyre Park Pavilion each and every Thursday in 2012 at 10am and generally take various routes in and around Kilmacolm on walks lasting an hour or so. It is the intention that once a month during the Spring, Summer and early Autumn there will be a longer Awa’ Walk which will take the Walkers away from Kilmacolm.
A “Paths for All” trained walk leader leads the walks and has the enjoyment, safety and improved fitness of the Walkers as priorities. There is no cost associated with the walking activities of Kilmacolm Walkers, so please join us wearing appropriate clothing and footwear – it’s not just a stroll!

The cubs will hopefully have attended the Paisley Arts Centre Pantomime this year after the disappointment of missing it last year due to the very cold and icy weather.
Finally we wish all the boys a very Happy New Year and look forward to see them all again after the school holidays.
