Christmas Past - Brighter Bridge of Weir
All that time preparing for the festivities and - suddenly - they’re over. But, just as our Christmas and New Year events celebrate winter, there are other events to mark the coming of spring and Brighter Bridge of Weir mean to celebrate those as never before. More details of their plans will follow in the next couple of issues of the Advertizer.

Langbank - St Andrew’s Day Lunch
Fifty villagers enjoyed a delicious three course meal, followed by tea and
homebaking. The lunch committee were delighted with all the favourable comments, cards and letters.
It was great to see so many guests wearing
tartan. Thanks to everyone who donated prizes, and the very generous villager who provided wine for all the diners. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, and hopefully can be repeated in 2012.

Looking back over the Christmas and New Year period, the last issue showed members of the group preparing the elements that were intended to complement the seasonal lights installed by the Community Council and the Festival Committee. Judging by the comments of local residents, their work was well received.
The usual lighting display on the trees at Livery Walk was augmented by displays at Neva Place, Advance Place and on Main Street itself.
Thanks are due to those residents and businesses who so willingly allowed Brighter Bridge of Weir to install the illuminated wreaths, trees and other decorations on their property. Among those are Roy Holmes Butcher, Colin and Rona McGinn The Gryffe Advertizer, Gryffe Motor Engineers and Baytree Interiors. The displays were threatened somewhat by the severe weather that affected the country on the 8th December but all was ok.
As Brighter Bridge of Weir’s Secretary, Hamish Henderson said: “The forecast of gale to hurricane force winds certainly got some of us out, double- checking that trees, lights and garlands were secure. Thanks to those hardy souls who responded to my early-morning calls for assistance!”
Looking forward to the new season, Brighter Bridge of Weir, ably assisted by members of the Bridge of Weir Angling Club (River), cleared waste ground on the south side of the cycle track at Torr Road in preparation for more planting there. Plans are also being made for the riverside walk between Bridge of Weir and Crosslee.
Brighter Bridge of Weir and other local groups are working in partnership with Renfrewshire Council and our Councillors to reclaim this area for the benefit of residents and visitors alike.
Brighter Bridge of Weir rely on the support of local people to achieve their aims. If you can help in any way, either by giving a few hours of your time or by contributing towards costs, you can be assured that your contribution will be recognised. Visit the group’s website at
