Paisley Colour Photographic Club -

Competition for the Bowie Trophies Reported by Charles Hamilton, Publicity Officer

At the beginning of December in the Hunterhill Community Centre in Paisley the Competition for the Bowie Trophies took place. Entry for the competition consisted of two images, one botanical and one zoological, judged as a set by professional wildlife photographer Lorne Gill (Perth). Lorne gave very detailed consideration to each image and providing his expert advice on how images may be improved as well as much positive feedback.

I am pleased to announce that I have been invited by our First Minister, Alex Salmond, to join the Scottish Government as Minister for Local Government & Planning. To be appointed to the Scottish Government is a great honour for me and I will do my utmost to serve Scotland well. I am delighted to join the team and look forward to working with colleagues, Parliament and local authorities, to deliver on our ambitions for Scotland, such as boosting opportunities for our young people.

As an MSP the surgeries, local constituency office, and all the local commitments will continue. The SNP has a strong record of achievement, including delivering massive investment in housing, schools, leisure and roads and I am sure this will continue.

Happy New Year - 2011 was a momentous year for Scotland; a re-elected SNP government with a mandate to make Scotland better.

I know for many

people the on-going financial challenges are a struggle, and so at times like this we need to stick together as a community.

The SNP has delivered much for Renfrewshire, ending tuition fees, freezing the Council Tax, maintaining the Small Business bonus scheme, ending prescription charges, putting extra police on our streets and cleaners into our hospitals. These and other actions are important as we invest in the future, to weather this storm.

Locally, we strive to regenerate our town centres, refurbish our schools, upgrade housing and work to provide employment and opportunity. Tackling inequality remains a priority, not burdening future generations by the mistakes of this one.

Looking forward, we must all work in partnership to deliver the positive change that will place Scotland and each constituency well for the future. In my own constituency, on-going housing investment, new and refurbished schools, new leisure facilities and continued investment in local roads and bridges. There is also an enterprise culture that should be encouraged, as Renfrewshire has what it takes.

Back to practicalities, the weather is increasingly volatile and so I would remind people to heed messages about preparation and check local public sector websites for the latest information if in doubt. Irrespective of the weather, I hope that everyone had a happy Christmas a good new year!
