Local MSP, Derek Mackay (SNP – Renfrewshire North and West) has welcomed the decision to change the speed limit on the B790 Houston Road between Bridge of Weir and Houston to 40mph. The current limit on this stretch of road is 60mph. Originally the council was looking to reduce the limit to 30mph but after consultation with the police it was agreed to have a limit of 40 mph instead.

Over the past year there have been a number of major improvements to the roads infrastructure in and around the Villages including the resurfacing of stretches of Barochan Road from Darluith through to Magnus Road. At the start of the year the roundabout at the Old Police Station was re- engineered and the road resurfaced and more recently new drainage systems were completed to alleviate the flooding problems on Barochan Road beyond both the River Gryffe and Magnus Road. A number of rural roads had a surface treatment and potholes throughout the area have been regularly reported and attended to. These works and others throughout Renfrewshire have been made possible by this year’s increased budget provision from £2.6 million to £5.2 million. At the recent Housing and Community Safety Policy Board it was agreed that the area in Bridge of Weir known as the Moss Road Park be declared surplus to Council requirements. In the report there is mention of improvements to the existing road layout as you enter Bridge of Weir as well as an improvement to the existing cycle path routes for use by everyone in and around Bridge of Weir. At the Environmental and Infrastructure Policy Board meeting it was agreed, following
