local schools Gryffe High School - MAD Show

On November 9th and 10th, the Pupils and Parents of Gryffe High School truly did enjoy a MAD night of music, art, drama and dance. With St Andrew’s day brewing the Scottish theme of the performance went down a treat. Opening the show, the senior Scottish warriors and surprise male staff stomped the stage. After the exceptional Macbeth

acting of the following

scene the stake was set high for the rest of Act one. Iain Doig of S5 then presented Radio Gryffe which was a fantastic collaboration of phenomenal singing and poem reciting. The traditional Scottish songs were sure to get the audience feeling patriotic. The madness began in ‘Hoots Mon’ where the art department

showed their costume making skills, with Crazy Cattle

and

Nessie causing havoc on stage. Never has there been a Scottish celebrat ion without some ‘gid aul’ Highland Dancing and the senior girls of Gryffe High excelled in their modern upbeat interpretation to ‘Feel So Close’. Twins Katie and Lauren Gane, in true Scottish style flaunted

their

drumming talents to some well known songs including ‘Flower of

Scotland’

alongside Piper Duncan Webb in an amazing conclusion to Act 1.

After the teas ,coffees and home baking, the audience returned to a welcoming second act named ‘Music of Influence’. The stage was colours and patterns galore as the art department and the senior girls displayed their fashion creations on the catwalk. The 60’s theme was enhanced by a beautiful vocal performance of ‘Stand by Me’ by Erin Armstrong of S5. The Gryffe High School choir then joined Erin performing their own rendition of the modern hit ‘Love the Way You Lie’. The Beatles era was certainly a huge time of influence and the collaboration of voices in Noodle Circuit, a boy band of Gryffe High did the legends justice in their brilliant Beatles Medley. The senior dancers let loose in their spectacular performance of ‘The Nicest Kids In Town’ from Hairspray and the Madness was then rounded off by a full cast ‘Soul Bossa Nova’ finale where the musicians, artists, dramatics and dancers gained a well deserved round of applause. This MAD event was a huge success and continues to annually unite the Gryffe High community in a night of great enjoyment.
