As part of this we would like to thank everyone who has filled in our community consultation survey, it’s been a great help, thank you! Kilbarchan Fairtrade Village Campaign - Not Quite Burns Night

With his passion for social justice, Burns would surely have been at the heart of any Fairtrade movement had it existed back then. With this in mind, next up for the Kilbarchan Fairtrade Group, at 8pm on Saturday 28th January we have a free Fairtrade wine-tasting event at the Old Library Centre, Kilbarchan, courtesy of the Co-operative and their new range of Premium Fairtrade wines. You’ll be able to sample a selection of red, white and sparkling wines along with a variety of Co-operative nibbles, perhaps some oatcakes? Rabbie would no doubt have been pleased to see how Fairtrade can transform the lives of poorer people around the world. You can also take part in our prize quiz. The event is free, but ticketed for numbers, with a £5 deposit which will be returned to ticket holders on the night. Tickets available from The Old Library Centre, 9 High Barholm, Kilbarchan, 01505 706070 or from any Fairtrade Group member.

The new Fairtrade Group at Kilbarchan Primary, now working towards Fairtrade School status, had a very successful Fairtrade stall at the school Christmas Fayre, with almost £170 being returned to Rainbow Turtle in Paisley. Thanks to all businesses, individuals and organisations for their continued support.

If you’d like to get involved or know more about us or our campaign, please visit our Facebook page, Kilbarchan Fairtrade.

Kilbarchan Camera Club

Our AGM will be held at 7.30pm on Tuesday 10th January in the Old Library Centre, Kilbarchan.

Why not come along, get involved and help our small club thrive.

British Legion Kilbarchan

We meet four times a year in Kilbarchan Bowling Club. Contact Secretary: A Harrison 702550. E-mail:flemingjohn6@yahoo.com, or the Bowling Club: 702175.

This funding will continue our core activity of free home energy checks along with the associated services such as thermal imaging and draught testing which can really help to pin down sources of heat loss and make homes more comfortable. We can help with free impartial advice on a whole range of issues, from insulation to boiler scrappage schemes, support for renewable installations, information on council and government assistance and general hints and tips on draught proofing and cutting energy wastage.

Come and talk to us if you would like to know more about the Governments upcoming Green Deal, designed to cut energy consumption by providing upfront finance for insulation measures, paid for through the energy savings, with a golden rule that means bills will remain the same or less, and without incurring personal debt.

With the weather turning so much colder and energy prices set to keep on rising, it makes sense to stop your heat leaking back outside. If you are tired of draughts and cold areas call us for a chat- we can send round an energy adviser for a free visit and advice on suitable measures.

Or you can come to one of our Draught buster workshops and learn how to do it for yourself, or drop by our office for friendly help and up to date information. While you are there borrow an energy monitor free for a month and keep an eye on exactly how your electricity is being used.

Our Car Club preparation is approaching its final stages as we negotiate with the council for suitable locations for the vehicles, and tie up the logistics of booking etc. All being well we still plan to launch Early 2012- possibly March. This is a club where members have 24/7 hire access to two efficient vehicles parked centrally, book able online up to 6 months in advance, or even a couple of hours notice. Similar clubs around the country are saving people anything up to £2000 per year! Get in touch if you are interested in any way.

The third leg of our work is promoting local food interests. There will be no mini market in January, but come February we will get the year off to a bang and our regular mini food fairs under way again with a Pancake Festival on February 25th, in our usual place outside the McKillop, from 11am-3pm. We could use all the help we can get, so if you would like to run a stall selling food stuffs (the more local the better), or just help to organise, toss pancakes or play music, then give us a call.

2012 in Kilbarchan West

On 1st January Morning Worship is at 11am and this will be followed by our monthly informal Communion. Crèche, Junior Church and FEWsion are on holiday.

The Guild has its first meeting of the year on Monday 9th January when local historian Helen Calcluth will give an illustrated talk entitled ‘Bygone Kilbarchan’.

On the 23rd January, we welcome back Mr Douglas Allan to give us ‘A Night with Burns’. Douglas was with us in the West in 2011 doing his training for the Readership. Both these meetings are in the Session House at 7.30pm.

Our Burns Supper takes place this year on Saturday 4th February. Tickets are priced £20 and can be had at the church or by phoning 01505 350701. This is always a very popular night so if you wish to come along, get your tickets ordered soon.

Kilbarchan East Church

On 1st January, there will be a short and informal celebration of Holy Communion after the service at 11am. Services continue at 11am on Sundays, conducted by Mr Russell Banks. Sunday School, Bible Class and the crèche meet from 10.45am in the halls. There is a special Congregational meeting after the service on Sunday 15th January.

The Bible Class campaign to raise money for the charity Mary’s Meals was a great success, thanks to the generosity of the congregation on Sundays in December.
