Delaware Tourism Conference Dover, DE March 31, 2011 – The Delaware Tourism Office hosted the 2011 Governor’s Delaware Tourism Conference at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. Over 150 tourism businesses and affiliates discovered ways to navigate through industry trends and challenges, effectively compete for event bids, and enhance the Delaware destination brand.


“It’s great to see the Tourism industry come together to seek new, inventive ways to support each other and grow the Tourism business in Delaware,” said Governor Jack Markell.


“The Tourism and Travel industry touches all aspects of prod- ucts and services in the First State and serves as a marketing tool to attract new businesses to Delaware,” stated Alan Levin, Director of the Delaware Economic Development Office (DEDO).


“This conference was an opportunity for industry affiliates to gain new insights and fresh approaches that can be collectively applied to the Tourism industry and individual business goals to proactively prepare for the future,” said Linda Parkowski, Director of the Delaware Tourism Office.


William (Bill) Sullivan, The Host Our Coast, and the Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau received awards.


Participants heard from Chuck Ghoorah, Co-Founder, Cvent; Joan Eisenstodt, Eisenstodt Associates; and Gus Vonderheide, VP of Group Sales, Hyatt Hotels & Resorts, NA on the latest meetings and conventions industry trends. Dave Sherman, Connection Pros and Sherman Training Center, conducted a workshop on teaming up to develop a com- pelling destination brand. Sports consultant Dale Neuburger of TSE Consulting shared best practices to effectively compete for sporting event bids, and author Rick Lewis offered innova- tive tips on how breaking rules can lead to success.

Culinary Experience Philadelphia, PA April 5, 2011 - The Loews Hotel Philadelphia hosted the American Liver Foundation's "Flavors of Philadelphia" event, an exclusive, unique and creative culi- nary experience where 11 restaurants, including Water Works Restaurant, Sole Food, The Capital Grille, Panorama and others prepared a three course, gourmet dinner, com- plete with tableside wine pairings for 12 people. The restau- rants also decorated their areas or worked with design companies like Eventricity to develop the perfect ambiance.
