Bar at The Farmer’s Daughter, a new restaurant available at Normandy Farm Hotel and Conference Center, an attractive meeting and event destination among planners within these specialized markets

According to Susan Schwedock, meeting and event manager for Cozen O’Connor (a full service, nationwide law firm headquar- tered in Philadelphia), the venues she chooses must be ideally suited for multi-client seminars, complete with state-of-the-art equipment and professional services. When it comes to food and beverage, Schwedock stresses high quality, creativity, presen- tation and consistency.

“Planners look for professional customer service from the sales and operations staff when choosing a venue,” said Schwedock. “Call backs, follow-ups and reliability are a must.”

Margie DiValerio, office services manager and special events coordinator for the Pennsylvania-based legal group of Schnader Harrison Segal and Lewis LLP, noted that she needs a good inventory of breakout rooms for her functions. For retreats, she added, resort properties and upscale hotels work best.

DiValerio said service and communication are always important when it comes to making a decision about which venue is right for her company.

So how do meeting facilities rise to the top of the list of planners within the pharmaceutical, medical, financial or legal fields? What does it take to meet the planner’s expectations overall,

whether that includes meeting space, food and beverage, or guest rooms and amenities?

Location of a venue in relation to the target audience certainly ranks among the more important attributes when it comes to choosing a successful host site for meetings or events within these specialized markets. Any venue utilized has to be accessi- ble to the greatest number of potential attendees.

This factor makes the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast region ideally suited for hosting groups within the pharmaceutical, medical, financial and legal professions, because so many pharmaceuti- cal companies are headquartered or operate offices in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

In addition, U.S. financial markets are based in New York City and numerous legal arguments are being decided in Washington, DC, attracting the best and brightest legal minds to the region. The area is replete with world-class hospitals and medical profes- sionals, as well.

Taking all of this into consideration, it stands to reason that many planners from within these industries opt for properties in this region when organizing meetings and events, as the bulk of their target audiences are located here.
