2011/2012 Activity


National Leadership Council funded activities


At the time of going to print, 2011/12 National Leadership Council funding was unconfirmed.


Behaviour and skills programme for middle managers: 2 cohorts of 40 participants


As part of addressing the huge challenge facing the NHS, the academy will deliver a tailored programme to 80 managers across NHS North East.


Top Leaders Programme


The academy will continue to support the implementation of the Top Leaders Programme following a refresh of the current participants to include leaders of the GP consortia pathfinders.


Provision of bi-annual regional leadership summits and master classes


One of the academy’s core deliverables, the 2011/12 regional leadership summits and master classes enable the academy to be accessed by a wider audience and provide what is sometimes an introduction to the connection between strong leadership and everything we do in the NHS. 2011/12 will see the delivery of two leadership summits, the first


of which, on Thursday 6 October 2011 will address leadership challenges, including the outcomes of the academy’s inclusion project.


NELA Networks bi-monthly activities for 100 members


The North East Leadership Academy Networks for clinical and emerging leaders will continue to grow in 2011/12. As well as being able to access learning events provided as part of the formal development programmes, network members will also be offered workshops with expert, national speakers, action learning sets and access to coaching for acceleration provided by academy coaches.


Ongoing regional coaching support and supervision


The academy has now trained over 50 coaches in the region who will continue to provide coaching to identified individuals across NHS North East in accordance with the NELA coaching framework. Supervision and continuous professional development sessions will be provided by the academy to ensure that our coaches are able to offer a quality service while practicing in a safe and supportive environment.


Leadership for Influence


Driven by the need for robust and effective safeguarding services, Leadership for Influence aims to develop leadership, influencing and negotiating skills in named and designated professionals leading services for children, young people and families.


A cohort of 24 participants will commence in May 2011.


GP consortia development


The academy is currently liaising with the North East Strategic Health Authority (SHA) and will work in partnership to plan GP consortia development following the outcomes of a listening exercise undertaken by the SHA and Cap Gemini.


GP pathfinder leads in the region have been offered the opportunity to undertake the National Leadership Council Top Leader’s Programme diagnostics.


Board Development


County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust are confirmed as participants in the National Leadership Council’s national pilot on board development and inclusion. The academy will continue to support the trust as the pilot progresses.
