CLINICAL FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME Clinical Fellowship Programme
‘The fellowship programme has been very rewarding so far.
I have had the opportunity to gain greater insight into the political world and context of the NHS, learn from experienced medical leaders in my group, develop new communication skills and hear from a number of people associated with healthcare and change management.
The clinical fellowship programme is a high level, bespoke development programme based on the NHS Medical Leadership Competency Framework.
The first cohort has been a great success. The programme commenced in May 2010 with the aim of developing clinicians in the North East
to become the future leaders of the NHS and equip them with the skills needed to meet the challenges of QIPP (Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) and system reconfiguration.
A cohort of 12 experienced medical staff including hospital consultants and General Practitioners (GPs) were nominated by their organisations as having the potential to progress to senior leadership roles.
With the development of greater insight into the NHS community and myself I have been able support colleagues at work and contribute more effectively to the health care issues both within the Trust in which I work and the NHS in the North East. Invaluable.’
