All About Boating Safely

Learn everything you need to know about recreational watercraft (powerboats, personal watercrafts, sailboats, and boats which are paddled.) including:

• General information about boats and maintenance. • Information on preparing for safe and enjoyable outings. • Navigation rules and aids to navigation. • Guidelines for operating your boat or PWC safely. • What to do in a boating emergency. • State–specific laws and regulations you must follow.

This beginner boating class will give you the knowledge needed to obtain a boat safety certification in many states. Many boat insurance companies will offer discounts on boating insurance to boaters who successfully complete About Boating Safely.

Three Rivers Park District GPS and Geocaching

For outdoor fun, try geocaching (pronounce it “geo-cashing”), an adventure game for GPS users. Here is how it works:

• Individuals and organizations around the world create caches, often in interesting or hard to find places, and then place cache coordinates on the Internet.

• Other GPS users visit the caches and sign a guest book, take an item or leave an item.

Geocaching is about more than just finding the cache. It’s about the challenge of getting there, the story of your adventure, exercise, spending time with friends and family and more! Join us on April 21 to learn more. After receiving instructions, you’ll head outside and find a cache in the park. Meet at the Visitor Center.
