MÝ ÐÌNH STADIUM

Company: Stark Location: Hanoi, Vietnam

The 1,000 year anniversary of Hanoi, Vietnam’s capital, was held in Hanoi at the Mý Ðình Stadium on 10 October 2010. With over 3,000 performers and dancers, it was a spectacular event and the most important ever organised in this country. It was regarded as an event of great international importance, with the presence of many international heads of state. In Hanoi, visual designer Paolo Buroni and his team coordinated by Stark’s Sabine Linder were in charge of the artistic design of the show which narrated the history and the beauty of this country through the four elements of nature using the large scale technical deployment of hundreds of image and lighting effects projectors. The large dimension area, including the entire playing field and the very structures of the stadium, were frescoed with images projected by 60 Stark Live and Revolution projectors which once again proved to be the winning technology for the most difficult projections on large surfaces and architectural structures. The 60 projector installation was positioned for proper projection on the second tier of the stadium, with the equipment supported on special stands. The modularity and compact configuration of the projection system together with the high power luminosity was the winning choice, leaving older, more voluminous and less flexible systems in its wake. Stark projectors were chosen after a comparison with an international array of technologies and projection systems. The idea was to create a large immersive scenography covering the entire stadium, including the playing field, to serve as a frame and support to the lights and the three video screens installed in front of the grandstand, on the opposite side of the field. In all, the area covered by images was about 10,000 sq metres entirely managed by computerised direction, piloted by a centralised time code to guarantee the synchronism between all of the effects, including the lasers and fireworks for the grand finale. The direction of visual designer Paolo Buroni was centred spectacularising the symbols and images most representative of the Vietnamese country and its people, creating a strong emotional bond with the audience. The entire artistic realisation was the result of a month’s work, while the technical installation of the equipment took about a week.
