Personally, I’m a big fan of New Year. Obviously I’ve got the genetic and seemingly generic party chromosome that Scottish people have, which means New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day and even the day after that are all reasons to celebrate. The devolved Scottish Government very kindly help us along with an extra day of public holiday than the rest of the UK and everybody, quite dutifully, joins in nicely. So with these genes and social conditioning, each New Year is special, but there’s more to it than that. As the 2011 calendar finds its slightly askew resting place on the office wall, we look at what the last year did and what the one ahead of us can do. Hopefully with a strong sense of possibility. For mondo*dr, 2010 was a year of change, growth and re- establishment. The magazine enjoyed an aesthetic makeover, and we continued to explore and grow in the new markets that the course we set in September 2009 led us to. The huge variety of installation stories that appeared in the magazine during 2010 will hopefully have confirmed that we do indeed just do the same thing all the time. Bold, interesting and world class projects. Not to mention the in-depth interviews and product stuff along the way. We also got to grips with our online content. Admittedly, we were a little lapse, a bit cluttered and altogether not very on top of things. But that’s changed and our new, streamlined and improved online activity seems to be going down well.

So we look forward to 2011 with genuine enthusiasm and excitement about how the magazine and the environment in which we operate will grow, change and develop over the forthcoming year. We’re almost certain to reach new heights on the expo scoreboard, as we spread ourselves as thickly as possible around the globe. The year kicks off with NAMM in Los Angeles, ISE in Amsterdam and AFIAL in Madrid, all before the second week of February. We expect a busy year, and hope not to be disappointed. For me, I look forward to exploring existing relationships further, whilst continuing to build new ones. There’s so much going on in ‘our world’ that, at times, it seems unconquerable. But with each discovery comes a heightened sense of vigour, and with each new experience a growing familiarity. I wish you all the best in 2011 and hope that our paths cross soon.
