NYCVIC
Company: VideoSonic / projectiondesign Location: New York, USA
The NYCVIC serves visitors and locals seeking the most current and up to date in- formation about events and attractions in NYC. The new centre, which was opened by Mayor Bloomberg earlier this year was designed by WXY Architecture. It fea- tures new interactive capabilities, including personalised itineraries. Glenn Polly and his systems integration team at VideoSonic Systems Inc. were hired by NYCVIC to create an innovative interactive environment using the latest in gesture-based way finding technology. Here VideoSonic Systems has integrated the projectiondesign projectors. “For the NYC Visitors Center, VideoSonic Systems worked with GestureTek on a wayfinding system that includes multi-touch projectiondesign-based tables, that also employ object recognition,” explained Glenn Polly. “Using gestures or special- ised ‘pucks’ they place on the tables, local New Yorkers and visitors from around the world can choose an event or destination, launch a Google Earth fly-through of New York, build an itinerary, then print out directions or send an e-mail or SMS text message to a cell phone. The projectors work with fly-throughs that are displayed on a 4x4 HD videowall. Four additional CyberTouch screens allow visitor to look up even more information, should they need.” Added Glenn Polly: “We selected projectiondesign F12 series projectors because they are an unmatched high-performance product in their class and they perfectly fit in with the type of cultural centers, museums, corporations, retail centres and en- tertainment venue projects we use them on. We can’t speak highly enough of them. The product is extremely robust being rated for 24/7 operation and its small form factor provides a very high quality image. With the wide angle lens, we were able to obtain a 60-inches diagonal image in only 36-inches of table height, enabling us to meet the strict guidelines of the American Disabilities Act (ADA) for this type of technology. Daniel Hernandez, Vice President of Information Technology for NYC & Company said: “Audiences have reacted with excitement and awe when using the slick multi- touch tables.”
