LIGHTPOWER OPEN DAYS PADERBORN
The sixth edition of Lightpower Open Days took place at Heinz Nixdorf Museums Forum in Paderborn, Germany on 10 - 11 May. Attracting more than 1,000 visitors from more than 30 countries, the German distributor of professional stage lighting and show technology, did not disappoint. Lightpower’s Managing Director Ralph- Jörg Wezorke said: “These sixth Open Days were our best to date.” The programme for the two day event consisted of lectures by contributors such as Patrick Woodroffe, Rick Fisher, Manfred ‘Ollie’ Olma, and Jürgen Schmidt-André, as well as equally matched evening entertainment from 8 Ball Aitken from Australia and Barpiano from Germany. Guest were given the opportunity to get an insight into the latest developments in the fields of control, video, dimming, networking, moving lights, spot lights, follow spots, LED sources, trussing, clamps, custom- made products, power supplies, gel strings and numerous effects. With so much on offer for attendees, it’s not hard to see why this event has become so popular since it began back in the ‘90s. MD Ralph-Jörg Wezorke explained how the concept for the Open Days first came about: “20 years back our industry did not have the education level which is provided today. While on the

other hand there was a huge demand for professional skills already. So, being a distributor of high technology brands we wanted to give information and techni- cal knowledge to the involved people, which mainly came from a talented but self-taught background. Two years earlier we made a first test of the Open Days concept. This was during the Frankfurt exhibition ‘92 and we learned that there was a massive user’s demand for such thing. More than 800 people visited our workshops, which we had organised to run in parallel to our exhibition booth. But a product show like Frankfurt could not be the preferred place for such a concept on the long-term, so we established a separate forum for this with our Lightpower Open Days.” In the beginning, Open Days was mainly used as a platform for education, but it has come so much further now that people are much more advanced in their spe- cialised sectors, therefore it is steering more towards sharing ideas across sectors. The primary focus, certainly for this most recent edition of Open Days, was, “to bring the different streams of our people’s industry together in one place. Creative energy meets technical realisation. Lighting and set designers meet with technical
