PALM EXPO BEIJING
Prior to Beijing, I had spent the week holidaying on the British coast, so when I landed in the culture capital of China, I was calm, cool and collected and ready to take on the new city that lay before me. Though my knowledge of China is some- what limited, I did feel on certain levels that the city of Beijing appeared to be some margins above other cities. Beijing felt organised yet not restricting, intriguing but not daunting, captivating rather than overwhelming. Opening its doors at 9am on 20 May, the PALM Expo Beijing, at first glance, reminded me of Frankfurt’s Prolight + Sound, in terms of the multiple halls, and clearly defined sections. Its size was also in keeping with Frankfurt; at least it

certainly felt like it, albeit there was noticeably less distance between the halls at Beijing. It is quite safe to say that the PALM Expo is the largest show for our industry within the China region. This was echoed by a comment made by Bingo Tso, Vice President of ACE China, he said: “We respect PALM Expo as the larg- est professional exhibition of our industry and ACE has traditionally established a strong relationship with PALM. Thus participating in the PALM platform is the natural choice for us.” Standing up to its Frankfurt comparison, the figures spoke for themselves.
